This June, the Myriad Team is PROUD to announce our commitment to support the LGBT+ Housing Initiative. We seek to provide on-going support to taking lost children off the streets, where many sell themselves just to survive.
LGBT+ Pride Month commemorates the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June 1969. As a result, many pride events are held during this month to recognize the impact LGBT people have had in the world.
What is the LGBT+ Housing Initiative?
LGBT+ Housing Initiative (LGBTHI) is a 501(c)3 Charitable Organization with the mission to spur home ownership in the LGBT+ Community. Donations to LGBTHI are used to help homeless LGBT+ youth find a home of their own.
- Home ownership in the LGBT+ Community is nearly 20% lower than the US Home Ownership Rate in general.
- 40% of homeless teens identify as LGBT+
How does it work?
When you choose to work with an agent who participates with the LGBTHI, that participating agent donates 25% of their earned commission from your real estate transaction. 5% of that contribution will go into a fund that will be distributed at the end of the year to organizations that have a mission to take LGBT+ homeless youth off the streets.
The other 20% of the agent’s contribution would be sent to you after the close of sale. This money could be used by you however you wish! Buy new furniture, make some updates to your new home, put it into savings… Likewise, you would have the option to donate all or part of your portion back to LGBTHI instead. The choice is yours!
I don't live in Western NY, can I still participate?
YES! The LGBT+ Housing Initiative is available throughout the United States and Canada. We personally know many agents who can help you and would be excited to connect you with an agent in your area.
